Salvador in 1 day

One day in Salvador: four focused options, so you choose depth over a rushed city tour.

Colourful colonial facades and a baroque church tower on a cobbled street in Pelourinho, Salvador.

With a single day — a cruise stop, a layover, a short work trip — the mistake is trying to cover the whole city. Choose one of these four concise routes instead.

  • Historic Center and Cidade Baixa: Pelourinho, one museum, Elevador Lacerda, Mercado Modelo.
  • Barra, Ondina and Rio Vermelho: lighthouse, beach, waterfront, dinner with music.
  • Afro-Brazilian culture and food: Museu Afro-Brasileiro or MUNCAB, Rosário dos Pretos, acarajé and moqueca.
  • Santo Antônio plus Pelourinho: heritage streets, the fort, a boutique lunch and a quieter evening.

Confirm museum, church, fort and cultural centre schedules before leaving your accommodation, and check sea conditions for anything on the water.
