Santo Antônio Além do Carmo

Heritage streets, small boutique guesthouses, art and quieter bohemian nights just beyond Pelourinho.

Colourful colonial facades and a baroque church tower on a cobbled street in Pelourinho, Salvador.
Pelourinho, in Salvador's Historic Center, at the end of the afternoon. · Editorial placeholder image — replace with licensed photography.

Santo Antônio Além do Carmo runs north from Pelourinho along a ridge above the bay. It is the part of the Historic Center where people actually live: colonial houses converted into small guesthouses, art studios, cafés, and bars that fill up without ever becoming a nightlife district.

  • Best for: travellers who want character over convenience.
  • Nearby: Forte de Santo Antônio Além do Carmo and its capoeira connection.
  • At night, prefer door-to-door transport rather than long walks between quiet streets.

Hotel and guesthouse availability changes constantly, and we do not list individual properties until we can verify them. Check current reviews and locations before booking.
