Santo Antônio Além do Carmo runs north from Pelourinho along a ridge above the bay. It is one of the best places to stay if you want historic architecture with a more residential feel: colonial houses converted into small guesthouses and vacation rentals, art studios, cafés and bars that fill up without turning the neighborhood into a nightlife district.
